CHICAGO — Hundreds of people spent their Sunday morning at the Brookfield Zoo as part of the zoo's Earth Day Weekend Celebration.Julie Diorio and her daughter Madelyn joined their family at the Brookfield Zoo's Earth Day Fun Run on Sunday. On top of the world: Chicago company is global leader in manufacturing globes "It's so important to celebrate Earth Day, especially as we're focusing on our conservation messaging," Leah Rippey, the vice president of marketing and communication said. "If we can just tell people to focus on the beauty of Earth around us, we're going to do that."More than 800 people came for the event, running 2.2 miles along the habitats and catching a glimpse of some of their favorite animals. As the rivers in the state continue to rise after the melting of the third biggest snowfall in Minnesota history, Senator Amy Klobuchar said Sunday it appeared the state would “make it through the flood.”Klobuchar joined other officials, including St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter, at Harriet Island on Sunday to give an update to flood predictions.She credited many reasons why it appeared the preparations to hold the rising river water back, including levees in St. Paul created years ago by the Army Corp of Engineers.“If we didn’t have these levees, it would be so much worse,” she said, noting that in St. Paul, the river had risen to 17.8 feet and was projected to rise to 18.8 feet.“If it got up to 19.02 feet it would be in the top 10 floods we’ve had in St. Paul history,” she said. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – The St. Louis County Police Department issued an endangered person advisory Sunday afternoon for a 17-year-old Spanish Lake boy.Kalian Watson left his home in the 1900 block of Lakeaire Drive between 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. He was last seen at the M&K Market on Bellefontaine Road at 4:40 p.m.Police say Watson has autism and is non-verbal.Watson is 6’5” tall and weighs 130 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes, and a medium complexion. A community in South Florida laced up their sneakers and took steps to fight disease and find a cure.Family and friends on Saturday gathered for the Take Steps Miami event at Tropical Park in Southwest Miami-Dade.Participants found a fun and supportive atmosphere to raise awareness and funding for the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America.More than 3 million Americans suffer from the diseases. Event organizers said Saturday’s turnout was a productive way to let them know they are not alone.“Here in Miami, in the Take Steps walk today, we’ve raised over $150,000 towards our goal of $200,000 to give back,” said Alfredo Cepero with Cepero’s Crusaders.7News reporter Dannielle Garcia took the stage as the event’s emcee.Take Steps is the largest fundraising campaign for the nonprofit organization.Latest news
