What to watch for in Timberwolves’ preseason game vs. Knicks, from the starters to the young guys

The Timberwolves head into their third preseason game, and first on American soil, on Saturday in New York City after a week flush with practices within the friendly confines of their practice facility in downtown Minneapolis. The Knicks are better than the Dallas Mavericks and likely, at this point in training camp, a more locked-in team than the Mavericks were for last week’s two games against the Timberwolves in Abu Dhabi, making this an even better gauge for where the Timberwolves are with less than two weeks until their regular-season opener in Toronto. With that in mind, here’s a look at things to watch for Saturday evening in New York.More of the same?: As unprepared and disorganized as the Maverickss, a team that started a pair of rookies in the frontcourt, looked against the Timberwolves, it’s a good bet the Knicks will be the opposite.Like Minnesota, New York touts a bevy of continuity on its roster. And this is a team that accomplished a lot last spring, winning a pla...Cottage Grove’s Innovation Road/Keats Avenue Bridge repairs mean detours starting Sunday

By ISABEL DEBRE and FATIMA SHBAIR (Associated Press)GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Watching the pulverized alleys of Jabaliya refugee camp in northern Gaza empty of people, Naji Jamal was frozen with indecision.Should he heed the Israeli army’s demand that all Palestinians evacuate and make the risky trip to Gaza’s south, where his only certainty was homelessness? Or should he stay at his multistory building — within what the Israeli army has now designated a target zone — ahead of a likely Israeli ground invasion? “It’s an existential question, but there is no answer,” Jamal, a 34-year-old health clinic worker, said. “There is no safe haven, there is no place that is not being shelled and besieged, there is no place to go.”In an unprecedented order to civilians in northern Gaza and Gaza City, the Israeli military gave Jamal — and 1.1 million other Palestinians — 24 hours to make up their minds. By MICHAEL R. SISAK (Associated Press)NEW YORK (AP) — Donald Trump’s top corporate deputies considered adding a “presidential premium” to his Trump Tower penthouse, Mar-a-Lago resort and other assets during his White House years, a gambit that would’ve padded his net worth by nearly $145 million, an executive at the former president’s company testified Friday.Trump Organization Assistant Vice President Patrick Birney told Trump’s New York civil fraud trial that they ended up scrapping the idea, but state lawyers contend that merely going through the exercise underscores how Trump and his underlings were intent on finding ways to beef up his bottom line. Trump is expected to return to court for the trial next week when fixer-turned-foe Michael Cohen is scheduled to take the witness stand.Birney said Trump executives considered tacking 25% onto the Trump Tower apartment’s value as a “premium for presidential personal residenc...2 LAPD officers claim they were racially profiled in Beverly Hills; attorneys plan to expand class action lawsuit

Civil rights attorneys on Friday announced that they plan to expand a class action lawsuit against the Beverly Hills Police Department alleging racial profiling after two Black Los Angeles Police Department officers said they were also profiled in the city.Ben Crump and Brad Gage said during a news conference Friday that they will likely expand the complaint to include a second lawsuit based on new statements they’ve gathered. The initial complaint, announced in 2021, said a disproportionate number of black people were arrested in Beverly hills between March 2020 and July 2021.Attorneys claim police arrested people for things like jaywalking or riding scooters on the sidewalk, and that the large majority of those arrested were Black. Additionally, they claim most of the cases did not lead to a conviction.Attorneys also said two Black LAPD officers provided sworn declarations claiming that they were also racially profiled years ago, with one of the incidents dating back to 2013.The o...Latest news
