SCOTIA, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Employees at Jumpin' Jacks were flipping patties and swirling cones for opening day Thursday morning. Diners lined up hours before—none faster than Arthur Fleming. It wasn't his first time beating the crowds, either. "I've been doing this pretty much my entire life," he continued. "It's been a family thing of mine to come here on opening day and get some Jumpin' Jacks." Mark Lansing has owned the shop for more than 30 years. He told NEWS10 his fans are some of the best in the region. Easter restaurant specials in the Capital Region "We have some faithful people, for sure," Lansing remarked. ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- On Thursday, Cameron Robinson, 25, of Grover, North Carolina, was sentenced to 27 months in prison. As part of his guilty plea, Robinson admitted to having a Taurus Model G2C 9 mm semi-automatic pistol on May 4, 2022, in Rotterdam. Another individual used that gun to shoot Robinson that morning. ST. LOUIS -- A Maryland Heights crash sent several police officers and a K-9 to hospital early Wednesday morning. Three officers remain in the hospital and two of them may be released next week.The officers were reportedly hit at about 1:42 a.m. while working a St. Charles County stolen car task force case, that ended up near Interstate 70 and Highway 141. Matthew C. Jones, 31, missed his exit to get onto St. Charles Main Street and instead plowed into a pile of cars and people on the other side of the bridge. Colorado Bureau of Investigation officials have identified two Monte Vista police officers who shot and killed an 18-year-old after he ran at them while swinging two knives.The police had received 911 calls on March 21 and went to a house in town where they encountered the young man, who jumped out of a window while holding two knives, and then ran at the officers, swinging the blades and “barely missing the officers”.Monte Vista police Cpl. David Pino used a Taser to try to subdue the 18-year-old, and Sgt. Michael Martinez then fired his handgun, according to an update report from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.“While retreating backward from the attack, Cpl. Pino fell to the ground and then fired his handgun,” the report said.The 18-year-old was declared dead at the scene. He hasn’t been identified by the coroner’s office.Pino suffered minor injuries. Former Los Angeles County supervisor and Los Angeles City Councilmember Mark Ridley-Thomas has been convicted of seven charges.Ridley-Thomas, 68, was convicted of conspiracy, bribery, honest services mail fraud and four counts of honest services wire fraud, said Ciaran McEvoy with United States Attorney's Office of the Central District of CaliforniaRidley-Thomas was acquitted of 12 other charges, McEvoy added.The allegations stemmed from Ridley-Thomas's dealings with Marilyn Flynn, former dean of USC’s social work program, which gave Ridley-Thomas's son Sebastian a job and a scholarship, among other benefits. In exchange, Ridley-Thomas voted on several measures related to the social work program while he was a county supervisor.At the time, Sebastian Ridley-Thomas was preparing to step down from the state Assembly while he was under investigation for sexual harassment, a change he claimed was for health reasons. Activists are renewing their push to close the troubled Men’s Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles following recent inmate deaths at the facility.Organizers demonstrated near the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Thursday morning demanding that they commit to a timeline to shut down the jail by March 2025.Demonstrators shouted “Shut it down” and held signs that read “People deserve care, not cages.”They said the conditions inside the jail are inhumane.Three inmates died in L.A. County jails in just over a week, and at least one died at the Central Jail, the Los Angeles Times reported.Also at the rally was Helen Jones, whose son, John Horton died inside the jail in 2009. Drought conditions across California continue to retreat thanks to heavy rain and historic snowfall that has battered the Golden State since late last year.Data from the U.S. Drought Monitor released on Thursday shows that more than 50% of California is free of any drought classification for the first time since February 2020.A small portion of northeast Los Angeles County is still considered to be "abnormally dry," the U.S. Drought Monitor’s least severe classification.
