Nearly 9,000 were without power Monday morning as heavy rain and strong winds batter eastern New England.The majority of the outages are located on the South Shore, where wind gusts could reach speeds of up to 45 miles per hour, potentially leading to additional outages.National Grid said they have crews ready to respond to outages and additional crews to deploy throughout the storm.A flood warning is in place for most of eastern Massachusetts until 7:30 a.m.The MBTA cancelled all morning ferry service due to the storm.This is a developing story; stay with 7NEWS on-air and online for the latest updates.

Heavy rain and gusty winds prevailed overnight and kick off this Monday morning as most of Southern New England picks up 2-4″ of rain total. Although most of the rain tapers off by 10am, it’ll stick around long enough to impact and slow down the morning commute.Even where the rain does lighten up a bit, big puddles/lot of standing water will be an issue with some street flooding and poor drainage areas flooding. Minor stream and river flooding is possible over the next day or so, but major flooding is not expected.While the winds won’t be as strong today as they were overnight, we’ll still have gusts 25-35 mph. It’ll actually help dry out the roads midday/afternoon. Temps today stay in the 40s. The rest of the 7 day forecast is pretty much on cruise control as we’re dry through the weekend. Temps generally run in the 40s, although Thursday’s chill holds the numbers down into the 30s.

MA airman accused of leaking classified defense documents in court today

The Massachusetts airman accused of leaking classified national defense documents will be back in court Monday.21-year-old Jack Teixeira will have a status conference to determine a date for his trial.The Dighton man is accused of posting classified information on a social media platform.The Attorney General says he endangered national security.Teixeira has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Finance ministers from the bloc have been negotiating for months a reform of the EU’s rules limiting debt and deficits for member states, known as the Stability and Growth Pact, which would curtail the options of nations seeking to spend their way out of a crisis and potentially force them into austerity. The rulebook, which has often proved difficult to enforce and has served as a source of tension, was suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic but should be reactivated next year. Austrian authorities arrest 16-year-old who allegedly planned to attack a Vienna synagogue

BERLIN (AP) — A 16-year-old teenager has been arrested for allegedly planning to attack a synagogue in Vienna, Austria’s top security official said Monday.The teenager, who was arrested Thursday, had announced in online chats that he intended to procure a weapon to attack an unspecified synagogue in Vienna, Interior Minister Gerhard Karner said. He had already obtained the financial means for the attack, Austrian news agency APA reported.Officials did not identify the suspect. They said he lived near Steyr in northern Austria.His home was searched and several electronic data carriers were seized, APA reported.Authorities also found images and video material with instructions for making bombs, weapons and ammunition, APA said. A woman is in hospital with serious injuries and a man is in custody following a stabbing at an apartment building in Scarborough on Monday morning.Emergency crews were called to the area of Birchmount Road and Eglinton Avenue East before 6 a.m. after getting reports someone had been stabbed.Toronto paramedics tell CityNews a woman in her 50s was rushed to hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries.Police say a man is in custody. Several seriously injured when construction site elevator crashes to the ground in Sweden

Fed is set to leave interest rates unchanged while facing speculation about eventual rate cuts

WASHINGTON (AP) — With inflation edging closer to the Federal Reserve’s 2% target, its policymakers are facing — and in some cases fueling — hopes that they will make a decisive shift in policy and cut interest rates next year, possibly as soon as spring. Such a move would reduce borrowing costs across the economy, making mortgages, auto loans and business borrowing less expensive. Stock prices could rise, too, though share prices have already risen in expectation of cuts, potentially limiting any further rise. Fed Chair Jerome Powell, though, has recently downplayed the idea that rate reductions are nearing.
