Dear Amy: I married my husband two years ago.He has two children from a previous marriage, both in their mid-20s.I have a teen still at home.We have a really nice time with his children. We regularly talk/check in with them, and I believe we have a good relationship. However, recently my mother died — after a sudden and torturous battle with cancer. My stepchildren have not expressed their condolences in any way, and both skipped the funeral.I then saw them two days later and they did not address it at all.My feelings are very hurt, but I’m not sure they should be.My mother used to say that young adulthood was her least favorite phase of life — people in their 20s are particularly self-involved.So this may just be the behavior of that age group.I haven’t shared my feelings with my husband because I don’t want him to feel bad.Related ArticlesAsk Amy | Ask Amy: A landmark birthday isn’t cruising along Ask Amy | Ask Amy: Siblings c...Word Game: Aug. 27, 2023

“Show me a good loser, and I’ll show you a loser.” — Major League baseball manager Leo Durocher. In baseball, there are good and bad outs. If a team has a runner on second with nobody out, and the batter hits a ground ball to the right side of the infield, he makes an out, but it’s a “productive out.” The runner advances to third and is in position to score on (for instance) a fly ball.In bridge, there are good and bad losers. Losing a finesse you didn’t need to try is bad, but trading one loser for another to your advantage is good.In today’s deal, West led his singleton ten of diamonds against four hearts. (West’s bid of two spades was preemptive; East’s pass to four hearts was inexplicable; only double-dummy defense would have beaten four spades.) East took the ace and returned the nine, and West ruffed South’s king and led the queen of clubs.South played low from dummy, ruffed in his hand and drew trumps, but...Russia’s Investigative Committee confirms mercenary chief Yevgeny Prigozhin was killed in a plane crash

On the Titans’ seventh play from scrimmage Friday, Patriots rookie Marte Mapu flew up from his safety position to make a tackle over the middle. He whiffed.Of course he did.Mapu spent most of this summer hunting receivers and ball carriers in a red, non-contact jersey as he recovered from February surgery to fix a torn pectoral muscle. During team periods at practice, he would sprint to stop the ball and then … halt himself. He needs more live reps.Mapu didn’t engage in full-contact drills until a week ago at Green Bay, where he participated in joint practices but sat out the preseason game. His game-day drought ended Friday in Tennessee. Over 33 defensive snaps in the Pats’ preseason finale, Mapu missed two tackles on six attempts. Over time, a 33% missed tackle rate would drop any NFL defender on the street. But not Mapu. He’s a rookie brimming with potential and intrigue, a hybrid linebacker/safety the Patriots seem intent on shoehorning somewhere and ...Latest news
