By Andrew Dalton | Associated PostLOS ANGELES — A judge sentenced rapper Tory Lanez to 10 years in prison Tuesday for shooting and wounding hip-hop superstar Megan Thee Stallion.Los Angeles Superior Court Judge David Herriford handed down the sentence to the 31-year-old Lanez, who was convicted in December of three felonies: assault with a semiautomatic firearm; having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. The sentence brings an end to a dramatic trial that created a cultural firestorm in the hip-hop community, churning up issues including the reluctance of Black victims to speak to police, gender politics in hip-hop, online toxicity, protecting Black women and the ramifications of misogynoir, a particular brand of misogyny Black women experience.Herriford said it was “difficult to reconcile” the kind, charitable person and good father many people described Lanez as being during the sentencing hearing with the person ...Sandra Bullock provided round-the-clock care for beloved partner Bryan Randall until his death from ALS

In recent months, rumors swirled that Sandra Bullock and her longtime partner, Bryan Randall, had broken up because he hadn’t been seen with her in Vancouver as she filmed her drama, “The Unforgivable,” in 2020 or when she premiered her comedy, “The Lost City,” at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas in 2022.With news that Randall died Saturday at age 57, it’s now known that he probably couldn’t be by Bullock’s side because he was fighting a private, three-year battle with ALS, succumbing to the ravages of what Bullock’s sister called “a cruel disease.”In a statement to the media, Randall’s family revealed that the actor-turned-photographer spent the final months of his life being looked after by “tireless doctors who navigated the landscape of this illness” and “astounding nurses who became our roommates, often sacrificing their own families to be with ours.”Sandra Bullock’s Partner Bryan...BART, East Bay parks police investigating separate homicides in Oakland

By Tierney Sneed | CNNUS District Judge Tanya Chutkan scheduled a hearing for Friday at 10 a.m. ET on the scope of a protective order – the rules imposed for the handling of evidence – in the special counsel’s election subversion case against former President Donald Trump. This would be the first hearing before Chutkan, a judge who has already come under criticism from Trump supporters and received increased security. Her move to schedule it for Friday morning comes after Trump’s attorneys – pointing to his busy legal calendar, which includes a Thursday court hearing in Florida in the separate classified documents case – had asked for the elections case hearing in Washington, DC, to be scheduled early next week. The Trump side had said that they had “lost” Friday as an option, but it’s unclear from the filing what they meant by that.Chuktan previously indicated she would like to hold the hearing on the evidence rules by Friday. Special counsel Jack Smith’s team said they were availabl...Giuliani appears to walk back Georgia defamation admission

By Katelyn Polantz | CNNRudy Giuliani still refuses to concede that he should be held liable for the harm he may have caused two Georgia election workers after the 2020 election – even though he has acknowledged he made false and defamatory statements about them, according to a new court filing.A federal judge recently ordered Giuliani to either forfeit the lawsuit filed by the workers, Ruby Freeman and her daughter Shaye Moss, or explain himself further and be called into a court hearing next week.Giuliani previously said he was not contesting that he made false and defamatory statements about the workers when he falsely said they took part in planting fraudulent votes as they counted ballots at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta. But on Tuesday, he appeared only to double down on that position, rather than concede the lawsuit and face its consequences in full.Giuliani’s court filing says that “for purposes of this litigation only,” he should be treated as having “default liability” bu...Los Altos: The Good Salad, Bibo’s NY Pizza joining State Street Market

There was a mixture of civic pride and sincere bafflement last year when San Jose was ranked the No. 3 barbecue city in the United States by Clever Real Estate, beating out BBQ-famous cities like Memphis and Kansas City. This year’s rankings are out, and San Jose has fallen to a more realistic — but still respectable — 22nd out of the top 50 metros. What changed? San Jose still ranked pretty high in the number of BBQ joints per 10,000 people, but the cost of buying meat spiked compared to last year and the number of Google searches about barbecue dipped. Austin moved up to the top spot from No. 2 last year, and Memphis — where the top search term is “fried catfish” — made a big jump from 11th to second. As far as California is concerned, San Jose is still the king as the state’s only city in the top 25. Sacramento placed 33rd, L.A. was 42nd and the bottom three spots were held by San Diego, San Francisco and Riverside. Where’s the ...Person shot dead outside Lake Merritt BART station
