Fire destroys part of Jamestown Mall in north St. Louis County

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - The aftermath of the fire at the old Jamestown Mall left part of it in ruins on Thursday.The former mall received significant damage after a large blaze broke out around 5:40 p.m. Wednesday. When fire crews responded to the fire, thick black smoke could be seen for miles.Part of the roof was missing when FOX 2's Bommarito Automotive Group SkyFOX flew over the abandoned mall. Missouri Senate approves to limit foreign ownership of farmland

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Missouri lawmakers want to limit how much agriculture land is foreign owned, and the legislation approved this week would pump the breaks entirely on any foreign entity acquiring more farmland. About .3% of the state's farmland is currently foreign owned, but a bill moving forward in Jefferson City would not only reduce the amount of agriculture land that can be owned by a foreign entity, but it would prohibit any future sale, which some say is unfair to landowners. "We're going to as a state, decide what private businesses can be sold to what entity," Sen. Lincoln Hough, R-Springfield, said. Gov. Jared Polis signs bills banning corporal punishment in schools, setting new rules on 48-hour jail holds

Punishment in schools and rules around bond hearings were among the bills signed into law by Gov. Jared Polis on Thursday.Under HB23-1191, Colorado bans all corporal punishment in public schools, state-licensed child care centers, family child care homes and specialized group facilities. Polis noted that most school districts in the state already ban the practice. Colorado joins the majority of states — now 29 — banning it.“Research shows that physical discipline leads to stress, depression and a low sense of self-esteem,” Polis said. “It can also foster an environment where outright abuse occurs. Austin Eis, the man accused in a series of violent acts that culminated in a crash that killed a ninth-grade student at Westlake High School, did not physically appear in court as scheduled on Thursday for arraignment. Instead, he appeared electronically from his jail cell and, through his attorney, postponed arraignment until May 19, prosecutors said.Eis, 24, is also accused of pepper spraying and stabbing a Walmart employee in Simi Valley and attempting to drag another employee out of the store on the same day. He is also accused of going to a relative’s home without permission in Camarillo where he allegedly brandished a firearm. Orange County man busted for possession of child pornography

A 40-year-old Santa Ana man has been arrested for possession of child pornography, authorities announced Thursday.  The suspect, Rafael Gil-Segura, was identified by a civilian investigator with the Santa Ana Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force who learned that the 40-year-old was downloading child sexual abuse material over the internet. Detectives with Santa Ana PD, along with federal agents from the Department of Homeland Security, executed a search warrant at Gil-Segura's residence, located in the 1800 block of West Pendelton Avenue, on April 19.  “During the search, several electronic devices were seized and evidence relating to the downloading of child pornography was discovered,” according to a Santa Ana PD news release.
