European Central Bank chief signals more rate hikes ahead with inflation still ‘strong’ FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — European Central Bank head Christine Lagarde said Monday that price pressures are “strong” and made clear that the bank will raise interest rates high enough to bring down inflation and keep them there “for as long as necessary.”Lagarde’s remarks reinforced her earlier statements indicating the ECB was not done raising rates even after inflation fell by almost a full percentage point in May, to 6.1%. The ECB has been hiking rates at the fastest pace in its history, launching its drive in July 2022 as inflation headed for record highs. 'Was hit 25 times': Mother wants justice after 16-year-old son gunned down in Joliet JOLIET, Ill. — A mother is devastated after she said two suspects "mutilated" her son at a Joliet playground.At around 6 p.m. on May 31, officers were dispatched to the 400 block of South Joliet Street on the report of a person shot. It happened at the Warren Sharpe Playground.Within two hours, 16-year-old Antoine Shropshire was pronounced dead at the scene."My son was in the house until 5:45 p.m. and then his friends called him to come out," mother Tysha Hammond said. Mayor Johnson speaks at Chicago Police Department graduation ceremony CHICAGO — Three recent Chicago Police Department (CPD) recruit classes were honored with a graduation ceremony Monday which included an address from Mayor Brandon Johnson.The ceremony was held for Recruit Classes 22-6, 22-7, and 22-8, and also recognized "recently promoted command staff, sergeants, detectives, and field training officers," according to a release from CPD. 4 restaurants robbed within 30 minutes on North Side CPD Interim Superintendent Fred Waller was also in attendance and provided remarks.Johnson's campaign platform for public safety and police reforms included making "CPD more efficient" and "strengthening police accountability" among other efforts. It said the sheriff's office received a report a man drowned around 3 p.m. on Saturday. According to the sheriff's office, searchers from the New Braunfels Fire Department Dive Team, Martindale Fire and Rescue and Mid-County Fire and Rescue responded to the scene. The body was recovered Sunday around 2:14 p.m. The sheriff's office said the person was possibly from out of state and the incident is being labeled an accident. San Marcos police searching for missing 55 year old last seen Sunday SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) -- The San Marcos Police Department is searching for a missing man who has health conditions police believe could pose a threat to his well-being. Thomas Yada, 55, was last seen at a rehabilitation facility on West Hutchinson Street around 7 p.m. Sunday. He has several health conditions, and authorities believe they could pose a threat to his well-being. Yada was last seen wearing a blue shirt, jeans and a wallet with a chain. Police said he "sways side to side when he walks, has a slur in his speech, is hard of hearing and wears a hearing aid."
