Fines begin on I-70 mountain express lanes after 5,600 drivers receive warnings for skirting rules Colorado on Friday will begin fining drivers $75 for using the Interstate 70 express lanes in the mountains when they’re closed or weaving in and out to get around traffic, among other violations.During a new safety enforcement program’s month-long grace period, more than 5,600 drivers received warnings in the mail after they were detected using an automated system of cameras and sensors, the Colorado Department of Transportation says. Now drivers who receive notices will have to pay the fine, which increases to $150 after 20 days.“The number of warnings issued during the grace period is extremely concerning,” CDOT spokesman Tim Hoover said in a news release. “We don’t want to see so many people get fines — we just want roadway users to follow the express lane rules so everybody can get to their destinations safely.”The express toll lanes occupy the narrow left shoulder on each side of I-70 along a 13-mile corridor from Empire to east of Idaho Springs. ...

Colorado Springs in the running for 1,000 aerospace and manufacturing jobs Three companies looking at El Paso County for 1,061 jobs snagged approvals for $13.1 million in state economic development incentives, while Boulder County could see another 500 jobs from the expansion of an existing aerospace company. The Colorado Economic Development Commission approved the awards on Thursday morning.Project Bullseye, which is looking to add 620 new aerospace jobs in El Paso County, received the largest award at $7.5 million in Job Growth Incentive Tax Credits. Those credits are awarded over an eight-year period for any jobs created and can offset future state tax obligations. The jobs, heavy on software and systems engineers, would pay an average annual wage of $160,484, which is 266% of the county’s average. Huntsville, Ala., and Weber County, Utah, are also in the running.Project Bullseye is most likely Boecore, which aerospace industry veteran Kathy Boe founded in 2000. Waiting for Denver to make good on its trash service promises? Here’s what to expect In the first six months of its pay-as-you-throw trash program, Denver saw a 3% uptick in the amount of waste being diverted away from its landfill. But the biggest change to how Denver handles refuse — free citywide compost service that could redirect everything from banana peels to tree limbs to a composting facility — is only now ready to start rolling out to residents.City officials have high hopes for what the service changes will mean for landfill diversion rates and greenhouse gas emissions in the long term, but most Denverites should sit tight with the size trash bins they have now, those same officials caution. Standing up the free composting program is going to be a slow, steady process that moves zone by zone through the city’s solid waste management collection districts. At least half of solid waste customers who don’t already compost won’t get their bins until 2024. “We have about half of the compost carts in now that we’ll need ...

Side Eyes are Glued Open

Side Eyes are Glued Open Side Eyes are Glued Open: Astrid McDonald, singer with L.A. punks the Side Eyes, told us about her Glue experience.Astrid McDonald: The best show we ever went to was seeing Glue (a hardcore punk band from Austin, Texas) play at a small Mexican restaurant in Santa Ana in 2017.It was one of those shows where the address couldn’t officially be posted because it was beyond DIY, so you had to ask around for it. Everyone from our little music community ended up being there, and it was absolute mayhem in the best way — people were jumping off tables and standing on booths in the packed restaurant.Glue is one of our biggest inspirations as a band – Kevin and I always loved watching their live sets on Youtube, and seeing them in that setting was the coolest ever since they don’t come to California too often.I would also like to throw in seeing Turnstile at the Constellation Room in Santa Ana in 2016 as an honorary mention. That room has a 300 person capacity and I remember feelin...

Mike Dunleavy Jr. was booed as a Warriors player. Now is his shot as redemption. LAS VEGAS — Mike Dunleavy Jr. emerges from the workout room at the Warriors’ Summer League facility and slides into a tall bar chair, a sweat towel draped over his shoulders as the temperature outside pushes 110 degrees. He hasn’t stopped moving since taking over as general manager just a month ago, and he’s moving with purpose: His trade of Jordan Poole for Chris Paul sparked an offseason that has turned the Warriors’ roster from young and green to old and wise.Dunleavy took over the GM role from Bob Myers, succeeding the man who brought him on as a scout in 2018.The pressure is on Dunleavy to preside over a dynasty in its final stages. Of course he hasn’t stopped.“There should be urgency. I think there is urgency,” he said. “But I don’t see an end in sight for Steph Curry, which is exciting for us.”To understand Dunleavy as the Warriors’ general manager is to know him as a Warriors player. He knows better than most how bad it wa...
