Passenger describes efforts to subdue man who disrupted flight to Boston One of several passengers who helped subdue a Leominster man accused of trying to open an exit door before attacking a flight attendant recently recalled the tense moments aboard the United Airlines flight to Boston on Sunday. Jeff Neil of Exeter, NH spoke to 7NEWS on Thursday, hours after Francisco Severo Torres was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation following a court appearance. Neil said he opted to make a move to subdue Torres when “it was clear that he was not going to calm down.”Cell phone video of the incident shows Torres shouting threats before rushing toward flight attendants. Prosecutors have said Torres tried to stab a flight attendant with a broken spoon. Prosecutors said flight attendants previously became aware of issues after officials said Torres allegedly tampered with a plane door.Neil said he stepped into the plane’s aisle as the situation escalated. He said Torres backed away from him, charging at flight attendants instead.“When I ...

Kevin Durant out at least three weeks after spraining ankle before Suns home debut Kevin Durant can’t catch a break.Durant rolled his ankle in pregame warmups ahead of Phoenix’s 132-101 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday. The Suns announced Durant sustained an ankle sprain, though they didn’t specify what grade, and said he will be reevaluated in three weeks. It’s a tough blow for the superstar scorer who only forced a trade to the Suns after Kyrie Irving’s decision to request a trade ahead of the Feb. 9 NBA trade deadline — a move Durant said blindsided him in a February podcast appearance.Durant was coming off of a 37-point effort on 12-of-17 shooting in Phoenix’s victory over Luka Doncic, Irving and the Dallas Mavericks. It seemed he was finally settling into a playing rhythm before rolling his ankle on Wednesday.“He’s out there working his tail off, getting ready for the game, and he twists his ankle,” Suns head coach Monty Williams said after the game. “So I mean, you can’t ...

Norwell blanks Martha’s Vineyard, Clippers sail into semifinal KINGSTON — Perhaps the worst kept secret in Division 4 boys hockey is that once Norwell scores once, the Clippers are an immediate threat to do it again. This recipe for success was in full effect in the top-ranked Clippers’ 5–0 victory over No. 8 Martha’s Vineyard in the state quarterfinals.Norwell (23–1–0) moves on to the semifinal where a matchup with No. 4 Grafton (22-2–0) awaits them. The Clippers reached this point a year ago, falling to eventual champion Sandwich in double overtime. Norwell coach Jim Casagrande said that the memory of that game is still with his team.“Last year stung,” Casagrande said. “It’s a new year and it’s a different opponent. We’re excited to get to this point but (the players) are done with it. They are ready to go now.”The final score was not the true story of the game, as the Clippers took nearly 28 minutes of game time before getting on the board. Much of this can be attributed to Vineyarders goaltender Zach Mathias, who stopped the onslaught...

Wide receivers on front burner of Joe Schoen’s sweeping Giants offseason plan Publicly, Giants GM Joe Schoen has played down the team’s glaring wide receiver need at every turn.“I know people want to talk about offense and the receivers a lot, but we’re still building a team in all three phases: we’re gonna look to upgrade offensively, defensively and our special teams unit,” Schoen said Wednesday. And he’s telling the truth: the Giants don’t have a one-track mind.Sources say the team is in the market for inside linebackers, defensive linemen, corners and interior offensive linemen approaching next week’s start of free agency and April’s NFL Draft. There is even optimism, per sources, that the Giants will be able to re-sign safety and captain Julian Love. They’ve already started talking with defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence’s reps about an extension, too.But don’t be fooled: especially after paying Daniel Jones $82 million over the next two seasons, upgrading the wide receiver position is a...

How much you need to make to 'live comfortably' in San Diego (NEXSTAR) - Are you making enough money to afford your bills, buy the things you want, and set aside some money and pay off debt? Unsurprisingly, where you live can impact just how much wiggle room you have in your budget, especially in some U.S. metros.A new study reviewed data from the MIT Living Wage Calculator, which estimates the living wage you need to support yourself and various family sizes throughout the country based on “geographically specific expenditure data related to a family’s likely minimum food, childcare, health insurance, housing, transportation, and other basic necessities" and a common budgeting method known as the 50/30/20 rule. Conducted by SmartAsset, a financial planning website, the study used the required annual income after taxes estimated by the living wage calculator to determine how much you need to earn to “live comfortably” in the nation’s largest cities using the 50/30/20 rule. The budgeting technique allocates your after-tax income to three categ...

Theranos exec Sunny Balwani loses bid to delay prison term A federal judge has rejected former Theranos executive Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani’s bid to remain free while he appeals his conviction for crimes he committed during a blood-testing scam he orchestrated with his former boss and lover, Elizabeth Holmes. The 17-page ruling issued late Thursday pushes Balwani, 57, a step closer to having to begin a nearly 13-year prison sentence he received after a jury convicted him of 12 counts of fraud and conspiracy last year.Balwani is scheduled to report to prison March 15 unless he can win a reprieve from a federal appeals court in a motion his lawyers say they plan to file.Unless the appeals court rules he can remain free, Balwani has been ordered to report to an Atlanta federal prison, according to court documents. The 121-year-old prison has been plagued by misconduct and other abuses described by whistleblowers during a congressional hearing last year.U.S. District Judge Edward Davila, who sentenced Balwani and denied his request to remain free o...
